About the Scholarship

The Avis Brebnor Memorial Award for Excellence is a non-profit 501-c that was established in 2021 to provide financial assistance and mentorship to underrepresented minority students pursuing post-secondary education. The award was established in memory of its namesake, Avis Brebnor, and for her daughter, Michelle Gillis-Harry, and niece, Judy Edinborough. All three women treasured education and understood it as the gateway to life success.

Scholarship Purpose

There are two scholarships available for graduating high school students based on primary residence. The Avis Brebnor Memorial Award for Excellence (ABMAE) is for graduating high school students residing in the Atlanta, Nashville, New Jersey and New York metro areas in the United States. The Gillis-Harry/Edinborough Memorial Award for Excellence (GHEMAE) is for graduating high school students residing in Trinidad and Tobago. If selected, students will receive a one-time $500 scholarship award and ongoing mentorship from a career professional.
